Find out if the pain you are experiencing is due to flat feet and how to treat this issue.

While flat feet don’t always have to pose issues, most people at some point notice pain or discomfort. If you are concerned that your flat feetissues may stem from flat feet then it might be time you talked to one of our Pearland and Houston, TX podiatrists, Dr. Mark Moss or Dr. Hina Hassan. Here are some of the most common symptoms associated with flat feet:

Do I have flat feet?

If you look at a normal adult foot you will see that there is a curve where the arch of the foot is. Of course, those with little to no arch have flat feet. If you aren’t sure whether you have this condition you can perform a simple at-home test to find out.

First, get your feet wet. Then, stand up nice and tall on a completely flat, even surface. Next, walk away from where you were standing and examine your footprints. If you see a full imprint of the bottom of your feet then you most likely have flat feet.

Why are flat feet an issue?

While many people with flat feet will go through life without dealing with serious issues there are some who experience severe foot pain, as well as knee pain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and even shin splints. Surprisingly enough, even those with healthy arches can develop flat feet as they age, or due to injury or illness.

How are flat feet treated?

You can always turn to our Pearland and Houston foot doctors for help if you aren’t finding ways to address your foot pain or other symptoms related to flat feet. We can show you some great exercises that you can do from the comfort of your own home to help strengthen the tendons and muscles in your feet. You can also ice the foot whenever you experience pain or irritation.

Wearing the proper shoes that offer support and cushioning to help stabilize the foot will also be a major benefit to your feet. Orthotics and bracing can also help reduce pain and improve your symptoms. If pain is severe enough, we may also recommend corticosteroid injections.
